Do I need a canonical tag when republishing content?

Yes — if you're republishing the same article on another website. The canonical tag tells Google which version is the original, so search equity stays with your site and you don't compete with yourself in rankings. Add a `<link rel="canonical" href="your-original-url">` to the republished copy. You do NOT need a canonical tag when you repurpose into a new format (tweet, LinkedIn post, email) — those aren't duplicate content. Canonicals are only for same-format republishing.
